With all parking structures, maintenance is critical. Joint sealants play a crucial role in maintaining the structure's weatherproof integrity of the structure, and over time, the joints tend to disintegrate from UV exposure and vehicular traffic.


Joint sealant failure is perhaps one of the most common repair issues observed in precast double-tee parking decks. Additionally, corrosion-related spalling, tee-to-tee shear connectors, bearing pad deterioration, and corrosion-embedded steel plate connections can also be an expected maintenance expenditure for owners.


Proper maintenance and inspections must be done to ensure that each of the structural components and the condition of the joint sealants is reviewed appropriately and replacement materials are designed and installed to ensure they will deliver the maximum expected service life.

JMU CHAMPIONS DECK


WxP completed parking garage repairs to a leaking 32,000 SF upper-level deck area common to the football stadium. All work had to be completed in a 6-week time frame. WxP provided surface preparation by shot blasting, crack treatment, replacing all double tee joint sealants, locating and repairing broken weld pockets, patching edge spalls, and detailing all cracks/joints. A traffic grade polyurethane deck coating was applied plus acrylic elastomeric protective paint to interior face of exterior walls.
